i heart pencils part 2

Since I enjoyed sharing my little feature on pencil skirts, I've decided to continue with two more looks.

Urban Cowboy
I normally don't like knotting up a button-down - especially with a checkered print like this - it can so easily turn into a yeeha costume. But I couldn't resist cause I feel this style works well with this skirt. Since things are already too busy on top, decided to keep my footwear simple with my beloved pointy heels.

This is a really old pair of skirt (circa 2002!) from a store in Glorietta called Fish. I think they've already closed down. I was drawn to this skirt because of three things: 1. the soft denim material 2. the zipper detail with 3. the front slit.

Here's another suggestion: Instead of tucking in your button-downs, leave them untucked and folded at the cuffs for a more casual take.

The crispy shirt begs to be buttoned all the way to the top.

Then paired with tassled loafers to complete the look.

So try it out, take out your pencil skirts and experiment with fun and unique ways you can style them.

I was wearing
First look: Zippered denim skirt from Fish, Cotton On flannel shirt, shoes from Charles & Keith.
Second look: Striped skirt from Forever 21, Uniqlo Oxford shirt, Trois & Inch loafers, Ma's shoulder bag, Naraya lunch bag.
All accessories from Forever 21.

the skirt

The other day, I was checking out new stuff from Zara's website and saw this metallic skirt:

This reminded me of a very similar mini skirt I got on sale many years ago. I haven't worn it in awhile so I was inspired to break them out from the bottom of my closet.

Because the skirt is a bit short I decided to pair with flats so I used another oldie, my patent leather loafers.

tulip_close
Wore my oversized knit to balance out the short skirt. I feel a little bit like a college student with this whole look.

Patent leather was an excellent choice as it was also raining on my way to work yesterday.

I was wearing: GG5 skirt, knit from H&M, Itti and Otto patent leather loafers.

white on white

One of the trends this fall is the white on white look.

Image from Net-a-Porter
I love this white on white look from Isabel Marant. The simple white top and the skinny jeans lend the perfect base to the silk tuxedo vest and fringed knee-high boots. I am lusting after the tuxedo vest.

My favorite look at the Givenchy runway at Paris Fashion Week.

Here's my casual version of the trend:

Topped off with my denim vest for a touch of color and structure.

Stayed with the blue accents even with the accessories.

Finished off the look with my favorite pair of gladiator sandals.

I was wearing: Button-down from Bench (really old), Mphosis shorts, old denim vest, sandals from Melissinos.

weekend look

Currently enjoying the long weekend. Yesterday, I did my usual gym routine and window-shopping in Orchard Rd.

weekend_shorts2
Weather is pretty nice too - a little overcast, but no rain.

weekend_shorts1
Shorts and tee is pretty much my weekend uniform. With the boots and silver accessories, I gave this look more edge rather than made it look like I was going to the beach.

weekend_shorts_detail
Completed the look with my favorite flat ankle boots. See folks, flip-flops aren't the only pair of footwear you can walk around in on the weekends. Let's stop wearing flip-flops to the mall, shall we?

Enjoy your long weekend!

I was wearing: top from H&M, Pull & Bear denim shorts, ankle boots from Zara, silver bracelets from Forever 21, Charles & Keith bag.

just in: crisp white shirt

new_buttondown
The perfect crisp white shirt should be a staple in every girl's closet. Got a new one cause I feel bad about over-using my favorite white button-down. This time, instead of a slouchy and loose cut, I picked up a more structured and tailored cut (but I still opted to go one size bigger) from Uniqlo. This will be perfect with maxi skirts, skinny jeans and printed pants.

my project

Since we are just several weeks away before the Christmas holidays, I am already starting to work on my mini project. I will be traveling home to Manila and will be spending several weeks there during the break. This time around, I want to be smart  about what to pack for travel (to avoid the highway robbery that is excess baggage).
I will be reporting to our local office while there and will be spending lots of family and friend get-together's and maybe even squeeze in a mini beach break (if I'm lucky!). With this in mind, I am already starting to think about clothes I will be bringing along. Learning from a successful recent trip, I would need to plan looks ahead of time and focus on garments that I could mix and match with. The key is re-purpose. :)

I am taking a cue from this mix and match ideas from Shopbop as featured in My Daily Style.

i heart pencils

Pencil skirts are one of the biggest trends this fall. But instead of the usual corporate uniform of conservative black, pencils (just like this fall's pants) are all about bold prints and colors. You can check out this collection of pencil skirt street styling as compiled by the Style Copycat.

While I do have several pencil skirts, they are from the same cut as the traditional yuppie uniform. But if there's one thing inspirational about this trend, it is that it challenges us to think up of cool twists to what would otherwise be everyday office uniform.

A little bit rock and roll
Instead of the usual tailored button-down, paired this sheer black pencil skirt with graphic men's tee. Instead of black pumps, I opted to wear my lace-up booties.
BTW, I bought this "Sisly" skirt in 99(!) in Landmark's bazaar back when I was on my last year of college thinking that I needed to pile up on "corporate clothes" for my internship.

In keeping with the "rock and roll theme", this men's tee features electric guitars (how rock and roll is that?) and accessorized with colorful leather bracelets.

Preppy tomboy
Again, while we wear traditionally designed pencil skirts, we can still update the look by pairing with an unconventional top. This time, I decided to pair with oversized knit.

pencil_look2_boots
For tougher hardware, paired with my flat ankle boots and chunky silvers. But added in the pearl necklace to complete the mix-and-match look.

I was wearing
First look: Sheer skirt from Landmark, People Are People men's tee, lace-up booties from Zara, gold belt gifted, leather bracelets from Boracay.
Second look: Pencil skirt from Zara, H&M oversized knit, ankle boots from Zara, chunky silver bracelets Forever 21.
